Dane County Humane Society

Clearly this animal shelter doesn't care about their animals as my family were adopting a cat that was abandoned by their owner for 9 months and right when my older sister was about to pick up the cat today, the dane county humane society calls her and says that the owner of the cat wants their cat back eventhough we had already paid for the cat and did the adoption papers. But apparently they have a policy where if the original owner of the pet wants their pet back they'll give it back to them but this owner left their cat at their house alone and abandoned. This cat is honestly so sweet and shy and he's so cute I just can't believe they are just going to give it back to the original owners as when I first saw this cat he was skinny and had a rash on his nose.

Very nice facility that handles much more than dogs & cats. Open to support equestrian and other outdoor animals. Had birds, fish, and many more for adoption. Call or use form online to get time with an animal or two. There are places to sit and wait for your time. Expect a wait as it’s usually busy and volunteer staff is somewhat short handed. You can walk and tour nearly all of the facility and get a closer to the animals. We had no problem with the pet visits. Got to interact with several dogs. We came back the next day to visit again and decide on an adoption. Fees are fairly priced. They go through a lot of questions and numerous paperwork to review. Definitely a great choice.

I was very happy with my experience at DCHS. The staff was wonderful. Adoption process was easy and the staff member I was working with was incredibly helpful when it came to finding the right dog for me. We got to meet the dogs, as well as talk about how they found their way to DCHS, their personalities, and much more. I was interested in one dog, but the staff member was honest and let me know that this dog might not align well with my lifestyle. It felt good to know that they were working hard to find good matches for each possible adopter and pet. I ended up adopting a beautiful mixed breed. The staff helped me find everything I needed in the shop as well as giving me some of the food she had been eating, her medications, and even some of her toys and blankets from her crate. The staff also helped give me resources regarding crate training, potty training, and more. Everything about this experience was amazing and I couldn't be happier with the dog I adopted. She is so sweet and her and I definitely have a strong bond. Overall, I was so satisfied with the integrity, care, and information that were provided here.

We adopted our puppy from here! We loved how knowledgeable the staff was! We also loved the fact that there wasn't a lengthy application process! They very obviously care a great deal about their animals comfort and health! The kennels were clean and very large so no dogs, even the large ones, were cramped or unable to move. One of the dogs we wanted to see was waiting on a behavior evaluation due to some behaviors they observed when he came in and we were very happy that they were so honest about it and wanted to ensure we had a dog that would fit best with our experience level and household. We will definitely go back of we are ever looking to expand our little family!!
